Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
